What I have heard

Ryan Smith (DRHS) - to MSVU
Jason Danials (LHHS)- to STU
Jordan Irvine ( WHS) - to UNB
Ross Kinney (WHS) - to STU

others rumours have Matt Robinson (STU) , Sadler (MtA ) Boulay (MSVU ) to Crandall as they are entering the education program there

Just what I heard

- Irvine was initially supposed to head to Crandall I was told
- Interesting news that Crandall will be picking up Robertson, Sadler and Boulay. That means MSVU loses 4 starters now....(Boulay, Morris, Jewkes and Wickstrom). Does that mean that Robertson, Sadler and Boulay all have 1 year left at Crandall?
- STU losing Robertson, Holmes and McPherson mean a new looking team. Kinney and Daniels both heading that way, I had heard a rumor about Stefan Bielecki heading that way as well....any word on that..
- Ryan Smith heading to MSVU. He had been considering Crandall as well I was told...I wonder what kind of impact he'll have at the Mount...
- Any news out of Mt. A?or UNBSJ?

PostSubject: hot air, hotter Hurricanes   Tue May 04, 2010 8:36 pm

According to sources here on the island, both Lawrence and Gray from Crandall
are on their way to Holland.

There was a lot of hype last year about Crandall recruits and it turned out to be a lot of hot air put out by a new coach trying to make a name for himself. They were lucky to make the playoffs, just one year after going to the league final.

In not so good news for the Hurricane, it doesn't sound like Moss will be back.

Lawrence is a great talent and incredibly hard worker who should make up for the loss of Moss on the glass at least. Gray has a good handle and can help Holland play the up tempo game that Morrison wants to play.

Interesting Stuff...
While it is true that Wade Lawrence has committed to transfer from Crandall to Holland College. There is no truth to the fact that Moss will not be returning.
Moss is without a doubt planning on being back with the Hurricanes next season.
As far as Jamie Gray heading to HC, I do not believe anything has been confirmed as of yet.

Would love to see Moss back. He added a lot of excitement to the ACAA last year.
But i"m hearing about possible CIS dollars from Bishops, UNB, maybe even Acadia.
And why wouldn't they? Have you seen UNB rebound? Moss could help a lot of CIS schools

Coach MacMillan will be back next year and returns the best young front line in the ACAA in Bohan, Chisholm, and Malally. Akil Smith should also score lots from the swingman spot. Expect Graham and Sadler to return after Christmas like Matheson, but hopefully in better shape. Jordan Bedard from Moncton High is a very quick recruit who will get a chance to play early on.

Sadler and Boulay looked at Crandall, but changed their mind when they found out that even the ED students there still have to take two full Bible courses, plus go to two thirty minute chapels each week. One hour per week might not sound like that much, but here's the kicker: for every chapel missed, you pay an extra $5! Now there's a recruiting pitch for you! It's different for Robertson since he is a Baptist.

We also hear that Karl Frederick is joining his brother next year at MSVU. So Langis is again spreading hype in the hopes of avoiding the ax that has fallen on so many other Crandall coaches since Njoku got there.

Interesting news out of mt. A...
Why won't Sadler and Graham be with the team until after Christmas?
I thought Akil Smith had a real off year this past season. I've seen him on his game and know he's capable of some big ones, but last year he didn't seem to have the impact I expected him to.
What about Recruiting for Mt. A? The Rookie post out of Lockeview was impressive anytime I seen him play, it will be interesting to see if they can make a push to be back in the top part of the league.

Does that mean that Boulay is also returning to MSVU? MSVU will be without Morris, Jewkes and Wickstrom. I believe that the loss of Morris will be major, however with Todd Williams and Anthony Zinn in the mix they have more that adequate guard play, factor in John Caulfield and the chance of the Frederick brothers both being there next year....and there seems to depth at guard for them. Up front Reynolds and Boulay will need to hold it down, however I do not see this as an improving team, unless i'm missing something. If Ryan Smith is heading that way, he gives them a solid rookie who should see some floor time....any other recruiting news? i can't imagine Plato is sitting back thinking he's got all the tools to make another run at a National Championship....

STU - From everything I'm hearing they are losing Robertson (Crandall), Holmes (graduated) and McPherson (?). There goes 80% of there productivity. Washburn being back gives them stability there and I think he can be a very solid guard in the league. He'll need help though...I hear Jason Daniels is heading that way, who is another fast, athletic guard to play alongside Washburn, but I don't see him as a game changer. I've heard some rumours about some FHS guys landing there, Bielecki being one of them....I haven't heard much else though...Oh, Ross Kinney is apparently heading there (from something I've read on here) he ought to give a bit of a scoring punch, he's big and can shoot it, but he doesnt play like a "BIG".

SJ - Any news out of there? Is Scott coming back....Van Stagg had a nice rookie year, and they pulled off some big wins down the stretch (STU). Ineresting if they continue to add pieces...

Kings - Any news...Howlett going back next year?

Sadler and Graham graduated but could play the bulk of their fifth year, like Matheson.
Akil was up and down a bit, but I attribute that mainly to the inexperience of the young posts, who always take time to develop. There are plenty of other shooters. What we really need is for Dave Fox, good young 6'6' post from Moncton, to start playing. He focused on academics his first year, but if he plays next year there will be four excellent post players and that will really open things up for the Mount A shooters. MSVU will be extremely quick next year, but they would have a hard time matching up with us inside. Coach MacMillan will continue to develop these young bigs, and also don't discount the value of Doyle Anthony as an assistant coach. Say what you want about Doyle, but he scored inside as well as any big man in recent ACAA history.

hey Storm, how about a translation for those of us too old to use Facebook?

Also, any truth to the rumour that Morrison could join his son out at Lakehead?

That would be a huge loss for Holland, because Morrison is a great coach.
BUt it was a breakthrough year last year for Lakehead, and with the McMaster and Ottawa coaches gone that team
could win the Ontario league next year, if they can upset Carleton again. On the other hand,
G. Morrison is very close to winning the ACAA. Would he rather win the ACAA or work with his son
and win the CIS?

Storm, what do you think you need to add to get by MSVU next year?

Apologies....
The article pertains to a new player heading to Holland College from the Bahamas. He's listed as 6'8 250lbs. He's from the Bahamas and is a friend of Donathon Moss's. Beyond that, not much is known, however he does look like a low post type big...
I cannot imagine that there is any truth to that rumor of George leaving the team to join Lakehead. Morrison has done a great job with the Holland College program, building it from the ground up. He has been with the program since it's inception and I would bank on him sticking around and seeing them through to a conference championship. I will say that I felt very strongly that he deserved coach of the year last year. Hard to argue with Plato receiving it, however when you consider all the of factors (new program that has continued to take steps in right direction, 2 year programs rather then 4 year programs etc.) Morrison deserves the recognition.
What do I think HC needs to do in order to unseed the Mount? Well the Mount does such a good job of reloading and building guys up through their program. They do lose a lot this year in particular and truth be told you could say they've lost a lot of the last the 3 years, but they still remain the top dog. Stevie Morris has been a staple in the line-up, so losing his leadership and toughness will be hard to replace right away. Adam Jewkes was league MVP and was their most consistent scoring threat all season, so another big loss. Wickstrom was a league all-star (mind you not one I agreed with) but leaves big shoes to fill in their front court. All of that being said....They return a wealth of experience and a bunch of guys that can fill in those roles. Anthony Zinn has been the most under-rated player in the league in my opinion. He hits huge shots for them all the time and I have little doubt he will be able to step up and fill in Jewkes scoring role. Todd Williams may make the move to the point and gives them a lock down defender who is a good athlete. Luke reynolds may be an improvement in the Center position over Wickstrom. Then you have Sean Boulay, who had a solid year for them and John Caulfield who's been a capable back up. Add in Derico Symonds and the rest of the bench and there is still plenty of depth. word is that Ryan Smith is heading that way and should be able to compete for minutes right away, plus who knows who else Plato will get there.

So unseating the current champs remains a fairly tall order. Factor in Holland College should be undergoing a number of changes this year...Gone are league all stars Steve Hardy and Matt Fowler, as well as former league all star Jacob Ayangma. It's also been somewhat uncertain whether either Aaron Brown or Steve Brown will be back. Jordan Bruyere is gone, who had a big game in the Semi-finals. So lots of change...which can be expected when you consider most programs are two year programs...
The good news is that the coaching staff does a good job of recruiting year in year out. Look at the impact rookies this year. Donny Moss, Rob Daley, Alex MacLeod, Matt Morrison....Hard to argue with some of the success's they posted....Donny Moss had a coming out party during the ACAA's last year and should be one of the leagues top players next season. While Daley, MacLeod and Morrison all thrived in their roles off the bench and Daley and MacLeod both had big play-off showings (Morrison had suffered a broken collar bone). While I won't disclose too much news when it comes to recruiting....I will suggest they look as though the will continue to bring in impact rookies this season!

Will it be enough to surpass the Mount? It almost was last year....Getting close....

Any news from around the league?
Can anyone confirm some recruits?

So far what I've heard....

STU
Jason Daniels
Ross Kinney
Stefan Bielecki
Nathan Mazurkwicz (spelling?)

MSVU
Ryan Smith
Kareem Fredrick

ABU
Morgan Tompkins
Matt Robertson (STU)

HC
Wade Lawrence (ABU)
Jamie Gray (ABU)

Haven't been able to find much more out as of yet....
I have heard that Josh Graham is likely not back at Mt. A....Karl Fredrick has been trying to garner some AUS interest....STU seems to be in a quick rebuilding mode - loading up with some solid rookies...
