| Keep your eye on a kid from Hartland named Caleb Orser over the next few years....just going into gr9 ....a very impressive ball player. Hartland will be a major contender in 2 yrs or so and will have a very good chance of getting a title or two. |

| Word is that Bradley Hovey is going to be attending school in Oramucto this season, so a huge loss for Cambridge Narrows. |

| Yeah Bradley is attending Oromocto next year meaning Cambridge Narrows may not even be able to field a team, but word has it he is going for academic reasons. Him and Jon Ryer ( He failed gr 12 last year, so he's back ) should pair up nicely, Jon being a combo gaurd while Hovey plays the 2-3 but dont be surprised if you see him play the 4 due to the lack of size.
As for the top 10 players in both AA and AAA.
AA -
1. Brandon Moffat-Mcadam 2. Pat Macnaughton-SSHS 3. Justin Corey-Minto 4. Gordon Robinson-Harvey 5. Brandon Meikle-DP 6.Duan Fournier Ash-SSHS (Prolly never heard this name, very strong combo gaurd, player U16 this summer.) 7. Matt Harrington-DP 8. Eric Lewis-Sailsbury 9.Tyler Howlett-Campo 10. Malcolm Cole-Cambridge Narrows (If they even go AA)
AAA -
1. Brad Sates-Bathurst 2. Adam Spurrel-KV 3. Richie Wilkins-Leo Hayes 4. Josh Lafluer-Leo Hayes 5. Peter Esson-FHS 6. Jon Ryer-OHS 7. Matt Daley - ? (Is he coming back to NB?) 8. Caleb Dow-BMHS 9. Matt Sears/Jesse Balser-Riverview (Pretty good team should be prodeced this year, not sure who will have a better year) 10. Bradley Hovey-OHS |

| I have it from a reliable source that Matt Daley will be at Bathurst High for the upcoming year. the origional plan wa for him to go to Charlottetown rural but his mom would have none of it. Plus his Dad did not fare so well in his job search and is returning to NB for his last year of teaching. Then back to the island in the spring for good. Also BHs will be very good in the upcoming year (even without robichaud ) and Daley has ties to BHs and the BIR thing through his older brother. He wants to return and be part of their run at a AAA title . |

As far as I know Sam & Jerod Horsman went back to Truro, NS. Lots of kids are leaving GM - not just basketball players....I believe 25+ kids are leaving and the school has cut a teaching position because of it. Doubt we'll be a factor EVER again...but who knows - I hope they prove me wrong. |

Interesting info GM...is there a reason for this sudden migration...social , economic or otherwise ??? Grand Manan always had a very active and vibrant economy and was always a very close knit , community....people loved living there and even more people loved visitng there. What has changed if anything? |

It's an economy thing....if you do not work in the fishing industry, tourism, education or own a business - there isn't much for you. I'd move back, but I work with Canada Customs, so, there really isn't anything for me....the number of houses for sale on the Island is astounding. In fact - the store that is next to the school - "Harbour Gifts" - which has been owned by the Horsmans (forever) is actually for sale...
In the past - there have been 'cycles' of people - there will be a year or two where many people will leave and then a another cycle where many will come to the Island. Hopefully, that will be the case. There have been many positives on the Island - the gov't gave GM $850,000 to finish our first covered ice rink and there is a second gym, and decent facilites at the local Boys & Girls Club. So, there is more to do for the kids etc., but the bottom line I think, is a slow economy... |
